Lawmaker, Wife Die In Crash

The euphoria of third term ticket has left the family of Hon. Emmanuel Maduabum representing Awgu South constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly desolate. It claimed the lives of the lawmaker, his wife and their driver in a ghastly motor accident penultimate Friday at Nenwe area, on Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway.

TheNEWS gathered that Hon. Maduabum was returning to Enugu from his village, Awgu, where he celebrated with his kith and kin over the approval granted by Governor Sullivan Chime to his grabbing the Peoples Democratic Party’s ticket to represent the party in the 2011 elections for a third term in the state Assembly. But his Toyota Camry car collided with a passenger bus belonging to Awgu Mass Transit. According to an eye witness, the drivers of both vehicles died instantly while Maduabum’s wife died shortly after in the same government hospital where the lawmaker was admitted with serious injuries.

On Tuesday 17 August, activities at the Enugu House of Assembly came to an abrupt halt when news of Hon. Maduabum’s death reached there. The Speaker of the House, Hon. Eugene Odoh adjourned sitting immediately in honour of the deceased colleague. Since then members of the House have been mourning their colleague by holding the sessions in black attire.
