Elizabeth Taylor, 78, To Marry Man 29 Years Younger

At an age when most women would be content playing grandma, screen legend Elizabeth Taylor is not afraid to try her hands at marriage once again. The 78-year-old actress is planning to walk – or be rolled in a wheelchair – down the the aisle with Jason Winters, an African-American, who at 49 is 29 years younger than her.

• Liz and Jason Winters.

She had previously been wed eight times to seven different men, including the late actor Richard Burton, who she married and divorced twice.

Even for Hollywood, the union is out of the ordinary, moreso as the two-time Oscar winner has had more than 100 operations in the past 25 years. Her ailments have included brain tumour, congestive heart failure, stroke, diabetes, pneumonia, osteoporosis and skin cancer. She is now suffering from scoliosis, a painful curvature of the spine, which has left her wheelchair-bound and with crippling neck pain.

But endorsement has come from no less a personality than celebrity astrologer Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Stallone, who believes that though Elizabeth’s other unions have not been successful, this relationship will last.

Jackie, the mother of Sylvester Stallone, will be a guest at Liz’s wedding to Los Angeles-based talent agent, Winters.

Jackie – who has performed astrological readings for a host of Hollywood stars and politicians, including former Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev – predicted to BANG Showbiz: “I think it will the best marriage of all for her.

“The most unusual thing is that she has stayed single for so long! I think it will be the most normal of them all – because she’s got rid of a lot of her silliness – and I think it will be the happiest.

“She’s not interested in her career, she’s not interested in partying, she’s not interested in running around all over town, things that were very important at one time are not anymore. It makes more sense for her to get married now. She wanted different things 20 years ago, at this stage in the game it is right for her to get married.”

But Anthony Carr, who has been dubbed ‘The World’s Most Documented Psychic’, is one person who is not predicting a happy ever after for Elizabeth and Jason. Carr thinks the union could go the same way as all her previous marriages, but insists she has the right to marry again.

The psychic – who writes a column for the Toronto Sun newspaper, has appeared on numerous US TV shows, including ‘The Daily Show’, and penned the book Stargazer: Predictions and Prophecies – said: “I feel it will be another Liza Minnelli and David Gest type of relationship. I don’t predict a happy ending, unfortunately. It will be romantic for a while but it won’t last. But she’s of sound mind and she’s well enough to get married, despite the reports of her ill health.”
